MK Knives & Tools Rambler is designed for hiking and extended time outdoors. As a universal forest knife, this model is highly recommended: large enough (260 mm overall) to handle heavier woodwork and batoning, yet with a 131 mm (5.16″) blade that remains wide, versatile, and capable of performing fine camp tasks such as food preparation.
The presented knife features a blade made of Vanadis 4 Extraâa European tool steel known for outstanding overload resistance and 61â62 HRC hardnessâcoated with a black DLC layer.
The drop-point blade is finished with a hollow Groove Grind (GG) for efficient cutting.
The handle scales are made of green G10, and the sheathâs pictograms are characteristic of the âFear The Bearâ series. The knife comes with a color-matched Kydex sheath.
âFear The Bearâ â A Tribute to Nature
The Fear The Bear series was created to honor the wild. The bear-head symbol on the sheath is more than decorationâitâs a reminder that humans are visitors in natureâs domain. Forests, mountains, and plains have their rightful inhabitants, and just like animal tracks in the earth, the bear-paw imprint on the knives symbolizes responsible presence in the outdoors.
Rambler â A Companion for Outdoor Activity
The Rambler is a solid, confidence-inspiring tool. Its substantial size (260 mm total) sits securely in hand, with well-balanced weight designed not to fatigue during longer tasks. The ergonomic handle has a smooth, harmonious profile with a defined grip line accommodating both smaller and larger hands. The shaping does not force finger placement yet prevents slipping, even during powerful chopping strokes. This recessed contour also acts similarly to a guard, which is intentionally omitted in this model.
The name Rambler reflects its intended user: a nature enthusiast trekking through forest paths with a backpack full of gear, heading toward a campsiteâthis is the knife envisioned on their belt.
About This Rambler Build
Premium Steel Core
SOLID CONSTRUCTION: The knife is crafted from a single piece of Vanadis 4 Extra steel in a full-tang configuration, extending through the entire handle for maximum durability.
HIGH PERFORMANCE STEEL: Vanadis 4 Extra is extremely tough and wear-resistant, known for superb edge stability and often used in knives designed for demanding and extreme conditions.
DURABLE COATING: The blade is coated with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon)âa highly durable, anti-reflective layer (~90 HRC equivalent) that significantly enhances corrosion resistance, especially beneficial for non-stainless steels like Vanadis 4 Extra.
Blade Geometry for Effective Cutting
BLADE PROFILE & GRIND: A universal drop point paired with an innovative hollow Groove Grind (GG) for enhanced slicing capability.
JIMPING: Spine jimping improves pressure control, guiding the edge during precise or forceful cuts.
DYNAMIC CONSTRUCTION: The slightly curved profileâfrom the handleâs tail to the tipâcombined with the contoured undercut of the handle provides better leverage and efficiency during sweeping cuts or light chopping (e.g., processing thicker wood).
Ergonomics and Handle Design
The slim, graceful oval handle fits securely in the hand. The 102 mm (4.02″) undercut accommodates even large hands comfortably.
The handle scales feature a textured pattern for secure grip and are fastened with steel Torx screws that complement the knifeâs visual identity. The shaped front undercut functions similarly to a guard, preventing the hand from sliding onto the edge.
A rear lanyard pin allows attaching cord for retention, easier sheath extraction, or loss prevention. A matching length of paracord is included.
Handle Materials
The most commonly used handle materials at MK Knives & Tools are:
Micarta: Warm to the touch, textured, develops a patina over time.
G10: Extremely durable fiberglass-epoxy laminate; waterproof, chemically resistant, stable in any conditions.
Richlite: Smooth paper-resin composite; warm, moisture-resistant, aesthetic, ideal for minimalist designs.
âĄïž In practice: Micarta offers natural warmth and great glove handling; G10 provides maximum durability and aggressive grip in wet environments; Richlite balances comfort and elegance for refined knife builds.
Kydex/Holstex Sheath and Carrying Options
CARRYING OPTIONS. The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be used to secure the holster to a backpack or outdoor gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.
The sheath allows for customization of how itâs carried. To offer more flexibility, the knifemaker designed:
-
an optional Kydex buckle, which can be mounted on a belt or on MOLLE* systems. The buckle is not included in the standard set and can be purchased HERE. The clip designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems; to install it, first remove the module with the nylon loop.
-
an additional angled buckle, allowing the knife to be carried on the belt at a chosen angle, either more discreetly or more visibly. This clip can be ordered HERE.
*The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop.
