MK Knives & Tools Scout merges everyday carry practicality with outdoor capability. Lightweight and handy, it’s an ideal companion for short trips, trekking, and for anyone who prefers a compact fixed blade knife for daily use.
In this “Fear The Bear” edition it features a drop-point blade made of Vanadis 4 Extra steel with a black DLC “Camo” coating, a hollow grind (GG/groove grind) for excellent cutting performance, a weight-reducing fuller, black diamond Richlite handle scales, and a color-matched Kydex sheath decorated with series-specific pictograms.
“Fear The Bear” – A Tribute to Nature
The Fear The Bear series is an homage to the wild. The bear-head symbol on the sheath reminds users that people are guests in nature’s domain. Like tracks in the forest, the bear-paw imprint on the knife symbolizes responsible presence in the outdoors.
The Scout – Robust and Handy
The Scout line is produced in various steels such as Vanax, Elmax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23, etc., with blade finishes like PVD, DLC, stonewash, bead-blasted, and satin. Handle scales come in G10, micarta, carbon fiber, and other materials in multiple colors and maker-designed patterns. Each knife is paired with a custom Kydex or Holstex sheath matched to the blade and handle for a cohesive set.
Scout Dimensions
With an overall length of 203 mm and an 85 mm blade, the Scout is perfectly sized for EDC and outdoor tasks—food prep, making kindling, or opening packages. Its compact profile, even with the Kydex sheath, ensures discreet, unrestricted carry.
About This Scout
Premium Steel Core
SOLID CONSTRUCTION: Built from a single piece of Vanadis 4 Extra steel in a full-tang layout running through the entire handle for maximum durability.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE STEEL: Vanadis 4 Extra is an extremely tough, wear-resistant tool steel known for its aggressive sharpness retention, widely used in knives for harsh conditions.
DURABLE COATING: The blade features a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating (~90 HRC equivalent), offering anti-reflective properties and strong corrosion resistance—particularly beneficial for non-stainless steels like Vanadis 4 Extra.
Blade Geometry for Efficient Cutting
BLADE PROFILE: A hollow grind improves slicing performance, while the drop-point shape enhances versatility.
JIMPING: Spine jimping increases pressure control during precise or forceful cuts.
Durable Handle with Distinct Character
ERGONOMIC HANDLE: A slim, contoured oval profile ensures a secure grip. The textured handle scales are fastened with steel Torx screws that complement the knife’s design.
LANYARD OPTION: An oval lanyard hole allows attachment of a retention cord; a matching piece of paracord is included.
Handle Materials
The most commonly used handle materials at MK Knives & Tools are:
Micarta: Warm to the touch, textured, develops a patina over time.
G10: Extremely durable fiberglass-epoxy laminate; waterproof, chemically resistant, stable in any conditions.
Richlite: Smooth paper-resin composite; warm, moisture-resistant, aesthetic, ideal for minimalist designs.
➡️ In practice: Micarta offers natural warmth and great glove handling; G10 provides maximum durability and aggressive grip in wet environments; Richlite balances comfort and elegance for refined knife builds.
Kydex/Holstex Sheath and Carrying Options
CARRYING OPTIONS. The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be used to secure the holster to a backpack or outdoor gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.
The sheath allows for customization of how it’s carried. To offer more flexibility, the knifemaker designed:
-
an optional Kydex buckle, which can be mounted on a belt or on MOLLE* systems. The buckle is not included in the standard set and can be purchased HERE. The clip designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems; to install it, first remove the module with the nylon loop.
-
an additional angled buckle, allowing the knife to be carried on the belt at a chosen angle, either more discreetly or more visibly. This clip can be ordered HERE.
